6.      Conclusion

In conclusion of this section, it can be found that there are primarily three different ways of speaking about process change. The first is re-engineering, the second is innovation, and the third is leadership. In a way, these three process definitions have the same meaning and application. Re-engineering is the tearing down of old walls and rebuilding them, innovation is the radical change of starting a process re-design from a clean slate, and leading is inspiring the people with the result of an emotional involvement and partaking of the change vision in a manner that appears as an urgency to the stakeholders or followers. In either case, none of the methodology is a one-fits-all solution.

The authors have discussed, and we have compared them, reengineering, the deleting of old processes is radical change. This is a short-term solution, which according to Goleman et al (2002) in their explanation of situational leadership style applications, may require the appropriate long-term process change reengineering methodology. Accordingly, use it in conjunction with leadership application and IT as an enabler.

Davenport (1993) pointed out his successes with innovating processes as part being a process methodology that eradicates old processes completely. But he also said that a balance of improvement methodology should be implemented. This is the one that is referred to as slow and incremental step-by-step change, depending on the situation and requirements.

And in close, leadership versus management of change in Kotter’s (1995) argument, that it should be applied in conjunction with each other. Leadership is the skill to inspire with a clear vision while overseeing the big picture, together with clear and strong leader support. And management is the filing, tracking, and allocating of resources, and project tasks and the appropriate personnel. A process change or reengineering stands accordingly a better chance of succeeding, if not one system or method is applied, but if according to the situation and requirement, multiple systems are implemented, with both, the enabling of IT with taking into consideration the human needs in process change.
